--- RUSE RECORDS PRESENTS ' SELF - REPLICATING EP ' OUT NOW! Музыка Displaced 09/11  14:14

The Release

Ruse Records presents 'Self-Replicating' EP.
This release show cases the Ruse Records concept of 'Light and Dark' releases while infusing Neurofunk and progressive elements.
The concept for this EP, depicts the ideas of a virus attacking the cells, where the light side tracks 'Out of Time' and 'Hook It' cells slowly replicate into the darker tunes 'Stay Close' & 'Eclipse'.
We’re extremely happy to work together to create this EP with these very talented musical scientist hailing from different edges of the world, including ‘Smooth’ PhD from Slovenia to Dr 'Aqua-Tek' residing in the United States Of America, Dr 'Kyrad' from Switzerland and ‘magic hands’ surgeons 'Subterra' & 'Dekko' from England, please check the artists myspace address below to hear their other exciting material.

The Concept

Light | Smooth – Out Of Time
http://www.myspace.com/lukaakasmooth

The virus lands in form of ‘Out Of Time’ by Slovenia's freshest new artist ‘Smooth’.
The contamination begins with an infectious melody; light drums clear the path as faded cries blend into an evocative vocoded vocal, as a low pass filter runs over the rolling bass lines, the cries blend into an unforgettable melody; forged in the sounds of hypnotic violins.
The virus hits the blood stream, dilating the pupils and sending the tune in to top gear.
The arousing rolling sub bass is released in full glory, moved along by uplifting; light hearted drums. The violin melody bounces off the cries as we progress deeper into the tune, a 16th bar shuffle discharges the vocal creating an amazing sequence of events.
An absolutely amazing and memorable piece of music.

Dark | Aqua-Tek – Stay Close
http://www.myspace.com/aquatektunes

The virus has taken over, the cells have split replicating rapidly as ‘Out Of Time’ tries to hold on to it’s being, it quickly transforms into the darker side in shape of ‘Aqua-Tek’s’ pounding ‘Stay Close’.
The vocoded vocals are transformed, and the former soft sub bass leaks into a swirling reese’s atmosphere. The drums now darker and harder introduce themselves as they take over the body, the inside virus is almost at full strength as the stabs of distorted bass fight their way out, like the calm before the storm, the last breath of air is exhausted in solace… the virus has taken over and drops ‘Stay Close’ into a new structure. Swirling thick reeses wrap around every cell in the neuron while heavy steppy drums lead the way forward, the chunky deep sub bass resounds through the tune as distorted bass layers smother and layer the tune keeping it exciting and interesting.
A dancefloor and Cerebral experience like no other, not to be missed.

Light | Kyrad – Hook It.
http://www.myspace.com/kyraddnb

Happily unaffected by the Ruse virus, ‘Hook It’ created by Switzerland’s newest producer Kyrad kicks off with uplifting sweeps and perfectly created harmony, feed along by a number of layered hats. The drums drop inducing a cheer as it approaches the drop the harmonies build as ‘Hook It’ drops for the first time. A surprisingly heavy section of steppy drums kick in, yet uniquely hold a light uplifting liquid flavor to the tune, beautifully placed samples fill the verse and smooth sub bass adds the drive. As the tune progresses the first sign of infection shows as complementing neuro reese’s are minimally applied to perfect effect while additional strings come into play giving ‘Hook It’ it’s wonderful hook.
A great tune for the liquid heads but easily fitted into any set build up.

Dark | Subterra & Dekko – Eclipse
http://www.myspace.com/subterradj
http://www.myspace.com/dekkomusicuk

It’s become apparent the subject is infected, ‘Subterra & Dekko’s’ ‘Eclipse’ awakes with eerie atmospheres, not present before it’s slumber.
Retaining the steppy sequence of ‘Hook It’ the darkness of the drums has increased immensely and the uplifting melodies have been drained. As the pads sweep and ponder how to bypass the final wall for total infection a kick silences everything as a techie bass stab destroys the final hurdle. ‘Eclipse’ smashes down with an incredible wall of sound, completely destroying all sense of the Nervous system and any club system. The powerful drums, while minimal in structure; surrounded by deep heavy bass, create a huge sound, the mind has lost control. Subtle reese’s and wooden hits progress the tune helping to ensure you never get tired of hearing it, but for now all is lost the virus is in control.
An absolute club smasher, for those who like it minimal but heavy this is your Adrina Lima.

Interview with Jade.

Full Interview

Hi Jade, you’ve recently returned from a huge tour of New Zealand and Australia and Hong Kong with Chris.SU, your sets had been quoted as one of the best tours they’ve seen down under, how was the experience?

Jade :

It was my very first time leaving Europe, I’m happy I got so far finally.
It was a great experience, I love those countries, I think people are smiling more down there.
I’m lucky I was able to visit those cities, without this job I don’t think I would have gone so far.. .
The parties were off the hook – all of them were unbelievable, the crowd reaction was inspiring every time, they perfectly understood what we were doing.

What's the strangest / funniest thing that's happened to you on tour, world wide?

Jade :

In Wellington after the gig, completely wasted, we (Tiki, Stu & Pat (SOM), Chris, and me) were going back to the airport by a minibus.
The driver tried to make a conversation:
(driver) – What are you doing guys?
(pat) – We are musicians on tour.
(driver) – A band? That’s nice, what instruments do you play?
(stu) – I play the skin flute!
(driver) – Really? That sounds exciting! What kind of instrument is that?
(stu) – Mate, trust me – you would need to hear my soloooo

Which up and coming artists are you feeling lately?

Jade :

Misha - Bugs 2 is one of the best tunes I have heard this year.

What music apart from Drum & Bass do you listen to?

Jade :

I wouldn’t say apart, I don’t usually listen to dnb. I mean I do listen to a lot of dnb, generally tracks from my friends, the tracks I buy and play, but when it comes to actually listening, I rarely go for a dnb mix.
For me it’s party music, I still love to listen to loud dnb  And my musical taste is a puzzle anyway.
I listen to various performers from various styles.
Just to name a few favorites:
Crystal Method, Wax Tailor, Nine Inch Nails, Simon and Garfunkel, The Chemical Brothers, Hybrid, Trentemoller, The Beatles, RHCP, Justice, Metallica (Master and the Black are my favorites) etc….

Can you give us your current top 10 tracks?

Jade :

State Of Mind - Wake Up Call (SOM Music dub)
NC-17 & KC - Dr. Butcher MD (DSCI4 dub)
Ed Rush & Optical - Pacman (The Upbeats remix) (Virus)
Redeyes - Cruiseship (Chris.SU remix) (Spearhead dub)
Chris.SU - The Peak (Renegade Hardware dub)
Axiom & Optiv - Borderline (Citrus dub)
Mayhem & Phace - Lightyears Apart (SLR dub)
C4C - Phatcap (Phace remix) (C4C dub)
BSE feat SOM - Sandbag (BSE dub)
C4C - Dream Killer (C4C dub)
+1 Jade - My World (Citrus dub)

We hear there’s a Jade Album forthcoming, what other Jade goodies (pardon the pun) can we look forward too?

Jade :

Most of my efforts are concentrated on the album task, but there will be various releases on other labels aswell and I’m also playing out a lot across Europe which is great.

And finally, hot chocolate or coffee?

Jade :

Both, but hot chocolate has to come with rum, and coffee with honey 

Thanks to Sable, Jade and Paul @ http://beatplexity.com for hosting.

Biography:

From 2002 Cern [Ollie Macky & Jonny Beck] have been collectively producing Drum and Bass and Downbeat music with the main purpose of having a good time and a release of their creative tendencies. After finishing school both Climate and Omen began work at the then home of underground music in Auckland, Fu Bar. Having this opportunity they were able to experience the best of what the world had to offer in live DJ performance, this is where their main passion for DJing and production began. After getting recognized for their DJing skills, they soon began to support some of the local and international acts at New Zealand Drum and Bass pioneers Subtronix and Cyanide Recordings events. While still keeping the good times rolling and creative juices flowing, their productions got serious, and their skills began to take form. 2006 saw collaborations with Bulletproof, 'Rokhedz' and 'Red Mercury' and pushing the Neurofunk sound by promoting visiting artists such as Mayhem, Noisia and more recently Psidream and D Bridge.

2007 was a productive year for Cern with their "South in Session" series and In Depth monthly events going strong and increasingly improving their DJing skills and collaborations with New Zealand's finest up and coming producers Dose, Teknik, Menace and Luca producing some amazing tracks and increasing their knowledge revealing their first major signings to the Drum and Bass scene.

2008 has been a busy year for Cern, with a number of high profiled releases on major record labels and collaborations with some of the Drum and Bass scenes most respected artists. Continuing to develop their DJ sets, Cern have been busy playing countless events around the country and can be heard live in the mix ever week with their Molten Beats Show on BASEFM sort after all around the globe.

Full Interview

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF (Your name/s, where you're from, how and when did you get into producing/DJing)

Chook aka Philippe Schirrer I live in Luxembourg. For those who don't know Luxembourg is between Germany, France and Belgium.

I started djing in 1995. Being into hip Hop at the time I mainly focused on the development of scratching techniques. I then got into mixing dnb around 1997. In 2002 I started making tunes and after a few months fiddling around, I decided to do a sound engineering course in London. At the same time I started up our label Full Force Recordings together with my partner Dj Radic.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND?

I guess one could pigeonhole my sound as Neurofunk. Deep, with a good dose of funk. I invest quite a lot of time in getting a clean and big sound out of my productions. I’d say the sound engineering course helped quite a bit to actually understand what you are doing.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR MUSIC?

Well, I’d say my productions are very much inspired from old Cause4Concern, Matrix, Ed Rush & Optical and BC all the stuff that came out between 1999 and 2003. After that period it seems to me that the funk somewhat got lost. I’m trying to revive it but with the technical abilities of nowadays.

WHAT PROCESS DO YOU GO THROUGH IN CREATING A TRACK?

I like to start my track with the beat. I get it to sound as fat as possible from the start. If the beat sounds as loud and clean as a Misanthrop beat, then you can continue. Then I work on the bass and midrange using the Virus Ti or Albino 3. I then like to use weird samples for the stabs, like a photocopy machine sound for example or just take samples, layer them and change them into something completely different.

I try and mix the whole thing as I go. If you leave too much stuff for the end it can easily become a nightmare to mix everything down at the end.

WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR WORK?

I guess everything influences my work…

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

I just finished a collab with Phace. We did a single that will come out on Full Force. I’m also working on two remixes for Aquatek, a producer from the States. One of them will be on Full Force, the other one is for Ruse Records. I might also remix Lose Control by Rregula and Dementia for the German imprint Basswerk.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE COMING OUT SOON?

Sound of Time just came out on Full Force.
Shadowland XL and Retrograde will be out on full release in May also on Full Force.
Cern ‘Tense passed’ (Chook remix) will be out on Syndrome Audio this. Chook & Phace collab will be out on Full Force end of the summer.

WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS IN THE SHORT & LONG TERM

In the short term I guess reach more people in the UK. It seems as everything what’s not jump doesn’t get heard very much over there.

In the long term I want to work more on other genres of music. I just finished doing a soundtrack for a short movie called ‘The Vault’ and I’m working on another one right now. I’m also working on some minimal techno projects.
