Since his last release on Tru Thoughts in 2006, Swedish hip hop-soul-jazz maestro Freddie Cruger (AKA Red Astaire), has been busy travelling the world as a DJ and releasing music on his own label, Homegrown Records - one of these releases was the debut, and now extremely rare, Wildcookie 12".The "Drugs EP" received support from Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 1 and the lead track, “Heroine”, also features on the debut album "Cookie Dough".
Bear in mind that Wildcookie is not a one man band. Cruger's ultra-crisp productions and sophisticated synthline melodies are backed with the pitch perfect, often freestyled, vocals of Anthony Mills who is no stranger to the world of music.
In 12 short years he has toured extensively with Harry Belafonte’s All-Star Band, recorded with Krs-One, Amy Winehouse, Leela James, Maxi Priest, Snow, Sizzla, Dead Prez, Doc (Esthero), Sly Dunbar, Chinna Smith and Grace Bumbry. Mills has written over 1000 songs in this time and recorded well over 100 studio and live albums, providing lead vocals for two other duos – Super Viral Brothers (Pope/Universal) and XXLARGEMILLS.
Wildcookie’s musical content is a mixture of deep basslines and jaunty piano and guitar riffs, a trawl through the outer reaches of hip hop, soul and world grooves, with twisted jazz, beatdown house, easy listening bossa nova and Latino touches all making a play for your attention. But it is Anthony’s vocals that give the music its final edge. Delivered with a laid back, breathy style, there is also an underlying sinister mood in the voice that is reinforced with the lyrics, many of which have a drug theme to them.

Rahvas nõuab BASSI!
Eelmisest korrast veel madalsagedused kummitamas, on aeg juba pöörata pilk tulevikku ning lükata naistele ja bassile orienteeritud sariüritus uutesse kõrgustesse.
Järgmine pidu seeriast WOM toob seekord bassikõlareid käristama
Bristolist pärit produtsendi ja DJ nimega Redlight, kes oma sõnutsi
navigeerib ruumis, mis jääb house-i, breakbeat-i ja dubstepi vahele.
Tema produtseeritud 'bängerid' leidsid koheselt koha selliste plaadikeerutajate DJ-settides nagu Skream, Toddla T, Jack Beats, Goldie, Carl Cox, Pete Tong ja Annie Mac. Pole siis ka ime, et sel aastal ilmavalgust näinud singel 'What You Talking About!?' koos Ms Dynamite-iga nii UK-s kui kogu ülejäänud Euroopas laineid löönud on. Nüüd siis aeg jõudnud nii kaugele, et Redlight toob oma hullumeelsed bassi ja snare-i saundid Korteri lavalaudadele. Helid, mis nii eelmisel kui tuleval suvel paljude tutvustamist mitte vajavate festivalide (Glastonbury, Sonar) kohustuslikus kontsert-kavas olemas on.
Teda saatmas Dread MC, kes on samuti kiirelt tõusev täht nii dubstepi kui trummi-ja-bassi maailmas, olles tänaseks juba esinenud selliste suurkujudega nagu Skreami ja Bengaga.

Dorian Concept is an Austrian producer and part of a new wave of electronic hip-hop producers, which is represented by the likes of Flying Lotus, Prefuse 73, Dabrye, Hudson Mohawke, Nosaj Thing or Dimlite. He took piano lessons from a very young age, and now, in his-mid twenties, masters synthesizers like no other.
As a keyboarder interested in exploring the interface between digital and analogue music, composition, musical performance, and improvisation. His musical interests and compositions range from experimental electronic music to hip-hop, funk, and jazz. He was among the participants in the Red Bull Music Academy 2008 (second session) and later on performed live from RBMA’s Sonar stage in 2009.
Dorian’s influences range from the jazz of Coltrane, the later experiments of Ann Arbor Resident Dabrye to the soundscapes of Oval. Dorian Concept is a twirk-noodle king, his on-the-fly improvs and quirky key workouts are altogether astounding with scattered drums, piercing synth-laced hooks and jaw dropping bass.
Basically a self-taught pianist and somewhat of a YouTube star (his online tweaks get over 200000 hits), Dorian, aka Oliver Johnson has had releases on labels like Kindred Spirits, Affine Records, TLM Records, Treble-O and R2 and next to touring through Europe, Asia and Australia has gotten support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Jay Scarlett, Mary Anne Hobbs and Benji B.
He will rock out on the keyboard like no other during his show, the Austrian Scott Storch with more punch!

It might seem counterintuitive for a producer to detach themselves from one of the planet's most thriving music scenes, but in the case of exotically monickered Julio Bashmore AKA Matthew Walker that's exactly what he did growing up in bass music hotbed, Bristol. Julio's first love is house music, and operating just on the peripheries of the city's scene has allowed him to quietly cultivate a take on the genre unlike any other.
The lead up to last year’s acclaimed self-titled EP on Claude VonStroke's influential Dirtybird label was essentially a lifetime in the making. After years spent siphoning his older brothers’ music tastes through hip hop cassettes and with an interest in electronic music spurred on by Daft Punk’s Da Funk, aged 14, a battered old PC and a copy of Reason became Julio's very first "instruments". He later experimented with synthesizers and guitars, playing in bands for a brief period, but by the time he was old enough to experience club culture firsthand Julio realised that DJing was the true vehicle in which to deliver his music.
Labels, media and clubbers seemed to instantly 'get' the skewed angle at which Julio attacked house music in 2010. Night Slugs, Ten Thousand Yen, PTN, Dirtybird, fabric and Soul Motive were among those who housed productions/remixes– and this list of forward-thinking labels seemed fittingly representative of Julio's future-facing output.
How did all this happen so fast? A previously unknown producer from South Bristol, insulated from all but the focus on low, bass frequencies of the Bristol dubstep scene, was signed at the age of twenty-one on the most revered house label around. What was the secret?
Perhaps it was the hardware: Bashmore’s funding from releases and DJ gigs is always reinvested back into more hardware. Rolands, MPCs and Yamahas is what get him up in the morning. In reality though there was no secret. From much flabbergasted probing, deduction only suggested that his music was simply very good at moving bodies on the dancefloor! He had filled a niche in DJs record boxes where it should have said ‘grooving, stripped-back, percussive or uplifting’ and thus, his first attempt at getting signed was so successful. His music, simple but by no means easy, is just something you feel!

Roska born Wayne Goodlitt 13th January 1983. Started as a UK Garage MC under the name Mentor around 1998. As scene and sounds change, Mentor slowly changed to Mentor Roska to Roska and slowly moved from MC to Producer/ DJ.
In just four years, Roska has gone from distributing his albums around the shops from his car boot to being the golden boy of London’s funky scene. The self-titled debut LP on Rinse Recordings, a fistful of EPs on his own label, Roska Kicks & Snares, plus seemingly never ending list of remixes at the request of artists including Zed Bias and Four Tet, have established his mixture of house, dubstep and African percussion as a new paradigm that seems to be nothing less than unstoppable.
Others may have been doing it before him, but it was Roska (named in Mixmag’s Producers of The Year list for 2009) who asserted himself as the production figurehead of UK funky during its first few years. While his earliest material matched cheap grime instrumentation with raw, soca-tinged percussion, the Elevated Levels and TWC EPs already saw him cater to the respective tastes of more conventional tech house and deep house DJs, giving him much more crossover potential than UK-centric acts such as Apple, Ill Blu and Lil Silva. (It didn't hurt that his trademark "Roska! Roska! Roska!" vocal snatch also made his name instantly recognisable to anyone who'd been spending time in clubs playing UK funky).
DJing to audiences with less rigid expectations have allowed Roska to stay experimental with his sound. Inspired playing to open-minded crowds, he returned from Sonar this summer playing at the Barcelona festival as a guest of Mary Anne Hobbs for her BBC Experimental stage, following in the footsteps of Martyn, Kode 9 and Joker..
It can be said that Roska has become a de facto ambassador for UK funky house, responsible for the genre’s proliferation and evolution!

Neither a fan of vowels (his moniker is short for "subtract", albeit spelled with a "k") nor disclosure about his true identity, SBTRKT is a mysterious and anonymous producer/performer based in London setting out on his own glitch-filled, tripped-out solo career. Hiding his identity behind a rope-dreadlocked African tribal mask, SBTRKT appeared during last year’s blizzard of post-genre ear-bending bass music, with Mary Anne Hobbs soon labeling him "one of the freshest and most promising young players I’ve heard all year", highlighting that fact with a mix of almost all exclusive dubplates. Appearances for Skream’s Rinse show and Gilles Peterson followed.
SBTRKT's rise has been meteoric. Just 18 months ago, he was on nobody's radar, and now a flurry of high profile remixes and remarkably produced solo outings on the Brainmath and Young Turks imprints have propelled him to the forefront of the UK bass music scene. Though his success has not been overnight- it has taken him the best part of 10 years of graft to perfect his skills, he's also blessed with the fortune of good timing, emerging as London pirate radio began coalescing around the UK funky, crack house, and the Circle & Night Slugs camps; his sound, while rooted in his original inspirations, feels utterly 2010.
Perhaps best known for his 2020 EP, which blurred the lines between deep house, funky techno, broken beat and UK funky over four tracks, but he first appeared with a white label future garage mash-up of Goldie's "Timeless" and "Inner City Life." Basement Jaxx were early fans, commissioning him to remix the Kelis-fronted "Scars" into a skippily hyperactive bass-heavy banger, and he's since gone on to rerub the likes of José James, Modeselektor, Portico Quartet, Fantastic Mr Fox and even UK pop grime artist Tinie Tempah. Such is his hype, he's currently having to turn down remixes and keep music off air because "things end up on YouTube within an hour or being on radio!"
