Карл Бартос - барабанщик легендарной группы Kraftwerk в 70-80-ые годы. Он серьезно повлиял на нарождающийся электро-поп, участвовал в создании мега-хитов The Robots, Tour de France, его вокал звучит в композиции Telephone Call. Крестные отцы американского хип-хопа Africa Bambaataa и The Soul Sonic Force учились на его гипнотизирующих электро-битах.
После ухода из Kraftwerk он создал собственный техно-проект Electric Music и работал с культовыми британскими музыкантами Бернардом Саммером (New Order) и Джонни Марром (the Smiths), заложив основы моды на немецкий техно-поп a la Kraftwerk.
Его последняя работа - сольный альбом Communication (Sony Records, 2003) - настоящий шедевр немецкого электро-попа. CD1 kicks off with the syncopated key notes and beats of Sasha’s remix of Charlie May’s ‘Seal Clubbing’. Buick Project and Oliver Moldan take the mix down a darker route with deep rumbling basslines and percussion. David Byrne’s vocals on ‘The Heart’s a Lonely Hunter’ from the Thievery Corporation lightens proceedings to a degree. Slacker’s ‘Memory Man’ is perhaps the stand out track on CD1, with it’s twisted lyrics and percussion counteracted by a transcendental vocal and piano riff, while Dave Seaman and his Group Therapy ensemble produce an excellent remix of Gabriel & Dresden’s ‘Tracking Treasure Down’ to ensure an uplifting end to the CD.
The second instalment of this compilation sparks into life with the twinkling sounds of Paradise Soul ‘Spirit of the Turning Tables Part 1’ but this is a not to be taken as an indication of what is to come as the CD delves into the world of tough, bleepy, acid-infused house from the likes of Luke Dzierzek, Suicide Sports Club and Sean Quinn & Andy Page. 16 Bit Lolitas and Chris Lake pull the mix back on course with their ‘Sedna’ and ‘Hype’ tracks respectively, the latter of which is layered with an acapella of King Unique’s ‘Flashing Lights.’ As with CD1, CD2 ends in classic Dave Seaman style: Group Therapy produce a superb remix to turn the rather ordinary ‘Santiago’ by Bedrock into a crackerjack of a track; Luke Chable works his magic on Shiloh’s Dream on; while Osamu M gets to grips with Guy Gerber’s ‘Stoppage Time’.
It is hard to see this CD having the same longevity as The Mix Collections but this is a fine compilation nonetheless and one that cements Dave Seaman’s position amongst the world’s elite DJs.
